Mobility impaired individuals will enjoy a day geared toward helping them enjoy outdoor sports and recreation this June 21st, 2008. The Missouri Department of Conservation is proud to sponsor fishing, shooting, crafts, and other adventures normally restricted to individuals with full mobility.

Quarterly Meetings

NCD will conduct its next quarterly meeting at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel, 515 Madison Street, Seattle, Washington, beginning Monday, July 14 and ending Wednesday, July 16.

NCD believes it is vital to hear from communities around the country on what works and what does not for people with disabilities. The purpose of this meeting is to have open discussions about issues such as healthcare, employment, and several other subjects of interest to the disability community. We are delighted to have the opportunity to visit Seattle and learn firsthand about the experiences of people with disabilities from the northwest region. This is also an opportunity to meet NCD members and staff and offer your comments during the public comment sessions, which will take place daily.

A toll-free call-in number will be available for those who cannot attend the meeting. Written comments can also be sent to ncd@ncd.gov with the subject heading of “Public Comment.” All public comments will be included in the official minutes of the meeting and used to determine commonality and emerging trends.

Preparations are also under way for NCD’s fall meeting, which will be held October 6-8, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, 2345 McGee Street, Kansas City, Missouri.

These meetings are open to the public and free of charge. People with disabilities are always encouraged to attend and participate in the daily public comment segments of the meetings. The agendas will be posted at http://www.ncd.gov/newsroom/quarterly/quarterly.htm two weeks prior to each meeting.

Special Olympics is seeking qualified individuals to serve as volunteer Technical Delegates for the following sports at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, 24 June - 3 July 2011

Technical Delegates represent Special Olympics as the key sport advisors for specific sports and are responsible for ensuring that the 2011 World Summer Games Organizing Committee (GOC) correctly interprets, implements and enforces Special Olympics sports rules and modifications, the rules of the relevant International sport federation and current rule changes.

Even though the Medicare National Coverage Determination for Mobility Related Equipment was revamped in 2005, many providers and suppliers continue to be perplexed by complex policy requirements and strict protocols for physician and clinician documentation using the algorithmic approach to qualify the appropriate level of Mobility Assistive Equipment (MAE). Additionally, recent audit outcomes in Jurisdiction A and B highlight the need for targeted education to insure future provider and supplier compliance.

The Dept of Homeland security is hosting a conference to assess and improve the Department of Homeland’s security ability to deal with people with disabilities in the face of disaster.
